Rats are absolute pests which make their way easily into our homes. Rats bring about sickness in the house along with other bugs. They chew wires which can be very risky.
It is but obvious that no one would want to have rats in the house. You have to identify how they get in and stop them.
It is easy to find rats climbing on walls, crawling spaces, closed cabinets and sometimes even inside the refrigerator. They like food of any kind, including pet food. Rats are fascinated and gorge on leftover food which also means they eat leftover pet food as well.
Outside they hide in piles of wood, leaves, garbage bins and around any rubble. Rats found outside the home for e.g. in your courtyard would make clean entry into your home, even without your knowledge.
First and foremost, you need to clear your courtyard so as to prevent rats from entering your home.
You should stack fire wood off the ground. Make sure to clear all the rubble and trash from your yard or garden.
Do not leave open garbage bins, since the rats would make an absolute mess of the entire place. Do not leave pet foods outside, including bird food that is not in a high container.
Once you have cleaned up outside you need to clean up inside.
If you have a place for storing your dry grains and foodstuffs in the basement area of your home, ensure that they are tightly closed, so as to not let the rats into the bin. Use a sealing material to close all the holes of the walls, so as to prevent rats from entering. If your courtyard has big trees then you need to trim the branches which are close to your terrace or the roof, as the rats can jump onto the roof. Keep your sink and bathtub drains cleaned.
If you have identified that your home is infested with rats, then it is better to call in for specialized services or lay rat traps to trap them.
Rats are absolute pests and utterly unhygienic and your family could suffer health ailments, if left untreated.
